EDUCATION AND TRAINING
The Children’s Advocacy Center of Northeastern Pennsylvania encourages community members to learn more about child abuse and neglect. To help, we offer an array of prevention and education programs, training, and professional consultation opportunities. CAC/NEPA 101 – this presentation is designed to familiarize attendees with the Children’s Advocacy Center model and multidisciplinary team approach.
Finding Your Place In Child Advocacy – this presentation provides attendees the opportunity to learn about and identify the ways in which they can advocate for children who have experienced abuse. It includes the history of the child abuse movement, definitions of abuse, and types of advocacy.
Child Abuse 101: Recognizing and Reporting Child Abuse – this presentation addresses critical information on the process of reporting suspected/possible child abuse. It covers the impact and effects of abuse, tips for handling a disclosure of abuse and instructions for reporting suspicions.
Mandated Reporting Training – this presentation is designed for professionals who have been designated as mandated reporters of child abuse and who are required by law to do so. Covers legal obligations, signs and symptoms of abuse and neglect, how to make a report and what happens after a report is filed.
Professional Consultation – the CAC/NEPA provides professional consultation services related to the development and implementation of policies, procedures and protocols regarding child abuse. Available upon request to colleges, universities, school districts and other institutions and agencies. Consultation related to the development of organizationally specific child abuse training/curriculum is also available upon request.
Tech Smart 4 Kids Safety is a presentation designed to increase your awareness of the issues surrounding social networking sites and technology, help you understand the impact of technology on children and finally, teach you how to protect children. This presentation can be provided to teachers, administrators, case workers, and other staff during in-service days as well as to parents at another scheduled time. This presentation can range from an hour to three hours depending on the needs of your school district or agency. C.A.R.E.S. (Community Awareness and Response Encourages Safety) is a school-based outreach program that will bring awareness of child abuse to faculty and children while helping them to understand what they can do to make a difference in their own communities. This program will teach children that their voices will be heard and believed. Children will also learn how to be advocates for themselves and others. This presentation is available for both children and adults.
