Pinwheels – Child Abuse Awareness Month
Throughout the year the Children’s Advocacy Center of NEPA (CAC/NEPA) invites the community to engage in child abuse awareness and prevention education and events. On Monday, April 1st, CAC/NEPA staff and volunteers will plant 720 pinwheels on the lawn of the Lackawanna County Courthouse to represent each child served by the nonprofit child abuse intervention center in 2018.
The public is encouraged to participate or observe the pinwheel planting. The group will begin planting pinwheels starting at 3:00pm. Pinwheels symbolize a transformation of awareness into action.
“We are the eyes & ears responsible for overseeing & protecting the innocence of children,” said Mary Ann LaPorta, Executive Director. “As we learn kore about the epidemic of child abuse, we know how critical it is for our awareness to be TRANSFORMED into action! Be a BRAVEHEART! If you suspect child abuse, pick up the phone & make the call to CHILDLINE: 1-800-932-0313.”
For anyone interested in planting their own pinwheel gardens, pinwheels will be available to the public at the event for a suggested donation of $2.00. If your organization is interested in having their own pinwheel garden to support the CAC please contact Rosemary Bohenek at 570-604-9767.
